Anthony and Michael won a pot in MasF.2x in the second division, finishing at 22:59 (more than two minutes ahead of the crew in second place).
Arranged by Norwich Rowing Club the 5k long head race, held on the river Yare, attracted crews from clubs as far away as Brunel University to Norwich on Saturday March 1. Ten YBC crews participated in the race.
The six Yare crews in the first division had to wait in the cold for a long time as the start was delayed. First out were Richard, Arthur, Mark and Rod in Nov.4x and they did well against the opposition from Norwich School, but lost to a crew from Kings School Ely. In this division Anthony teamed up with Lawrence from Broadland Boat Club, but they had no opposition in MasE.2x. Equally devoid of opponents were Tina and Catharina in W.Nov.2x. Last to start in the first division were the singles, but eventually Andy, Ian and Lou got going (by then they were very cold). At the finish only 11 seconds separated Andy from a pot.
The weather improved for the second division, Ian and Andy joined forces in IM1.2x, unfortunately without opposition. As already reported, Anthony and Michael had opposition, two crews from Sudbury, who they magnificently outdid. In contrast the two Sudbury crews scheduled to race Claire and Catharina in W.IM3.2x scratched, so there was no chance of a pot. Andy C was the only Yare single sculler in the second division, his starting position of 180 shows the size of the event.
