The Yare Boat Club held its annual sculling races on Saturday 17th June on probably the sunniest and best day of the year so far. The 400 meter course in Thorpe ran down stream from Thorpe Hall finishing at the clubhouse and provided entertainment for spectators at two local pubs as well as riverside homes. The women’s open was won by Lisa narrowly beating fellow crew mate Carol. Despite sleepless nights as a new father Andy triumphed over a spirited attempt by Adam in the men’s open. The mixed doubles was won by Lisa and Dan after crabs caught by both crews perhaps hoping for the Splash (falling in) prize to cool off. The handicap sculls attracted the largest entry with all ages represented. Newcomer Alex won in the end to add his name to the illustrious list of previous winners on the cup.
A fun day masterminded by Anthony and Tony.
