The club races took place on Sunday 15th May in calm and pleasant conditions providing interest and amusement for the many diners at the two local pubs as well as onlookers and supporters at the clubhouse. The course was from the bottom of Arthur’s garden to the boathouse and straight enough to provide challenging but not difficult steering. The men’s open singles had eight entries and was won again by the ever young Anthony beating in the final Adam, who improved enormously in confidence and ability during the day. There were four entries in the ladies open which was won by Inger who clearly has forgotten nothing during her recent absence. Eight members contested the handicap sculls and Pete emerged triumphant and then collected the “crash & splash ” prize for falling in afterwards right in front of the crowds. New member Nikki excelled with Christina in winning the doubles event and showed promise for the future. The event not only stimulated newcomers to enjoy the fun of racing but also offered excellent practice at regatta starts and side by side steering.
