Yare Boat Club is open to anyone aged 18 and over
Most people row at the club on Saturday and Sunday mornings from around 8am. We also have coach led sessions available on Sunday mornings at 10am and during the week there are 2 coached sessions for members in singles at 6pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During the winter the singles sessions do not happen, and we instead have coached sessions on the rowing ergs at least once per week.
We have a large fleet of club owned boats. This includes 1 eight, 8 quads/fours, including a new Swift lightweight quad in August 2025, 9 doubles/pairs and 16 singles, as well as 5 training singles, all ranging from lightweight to heavyweight. Most of our members scull, but we also have a growing section of sweep rowers who row in the pair, four and our eight. The club has a plan to keep buying new boats every 1 to 2 years.
We also have a huge selection of oars for all of these boats, with 22 sets of club oars for singles and doubles and another 6 sets for use with the quads.
If you are more inclined towards rowing for recreation and pleasure, this is the club for you – we have many small groups of scullers who meet for company at various times and days of the week and always welcome new members.
We have a full programme of events – racing both against other clubs on our river and further afield, recreational outings, social events and work parties. Once per month we have a Club wide sculling event (Super Saturday or Sunday) where any member regardless of skill level can sign up. They are assigned boats to mix up crews with experienced and less experienced rowing together. This is very well attended.
We do not have a junior section of the club principally because the club is based on an island with access only by boat across the river.
But what we do have is one of the best sections of river to row on anywhere in England. It is navigable for 36km down to the coast if you are so inclined. But most people row on the first 10km which is wide and beautiful. But this gives you a 20km outing with only 1 turn.
All of our boats are housed in 2 boathouses. The singles, doubles and 8 are all inside a brand new (2023) boathouse which the club constructed. This is light, airy and most importantly spacious. It also houses all of the privately owned boats as well as the club fleet. We also have a quad shed which has recently been refurbished (2025).
Finally, we have a fantastic newly refurbished (2024) club house with changing rooms, showers and toilets, as well as a kitchen and spacious social space. Add in the 8 club ergs.
